Family Friday: My House at Christmas

It’s Family Friday on the blog today and I decided to share a peek of my house decorated for Christmas. I love, love, LOVE Christmas and I like the idea that during the month of December my house looks like Christmas threw up. Plus, with the girls getting older, it’s even more fun to decorate! So as I sip coffee in my Christmas mug, I’ll give you the tour of trees at our house. (post contains affiliate links)

Kidminmama Christmas Tour

First up, the family tree. I always have a “themed” or “pretty” tree and then we have the family tree. This tree is where any and all ornaments get displayed (including some “interesting” ones from Kyle’s childhood). This is the biggest tree and in our living room. It’s about time to upgrade to a taller tree, but we’re holding off for a good deal ;). This tree has LED lights already on it, but I add two strands of the C7 multi colored lights for a little extra something. This was the first year we didn’t need any “filler” ornaments. We’re getting close to running out of room!

As we continue our tour, we have the tree we bought from Big Lots several years ago (it replaced my first Big Lots tree that started to look like Oscar The Grouch from Sesame Street). This tree we randomly put in the dining room and I’m enjoying it there. I made it my burlap and red tree. Covered with browns and natural colored ornaments. dining-room-treeI made a garland this year for it from old book pages and twine. I used a craft punch and then hot glued it to the twine. I think it turned out cute and gives the dining room a little sparkle.

The playroom is where the last tree is displayed, which is a dangerous spot, I know, but where else do you put a Disney themed tree? Our Mickey tree has all our Disney ornaments from the past few years and even my own Disney ornaments from childhood. I made the tree topper (don’t look too closely) using black sparkle foam for the ears and gluing it to the hat. Then I took the leftover foam and made tiny ears and glued them on some small black ornaments I had to make Mickey ornaments.

I also made a garland for this tree using my silhouette and cutting out holly leaves, snowflakes and Mickeys and then glued it to twine. The girls loved the tree and only a Sofia ornament has been injured thus far…her body is still MIA…

I do love my mantle this year. I found the cutest pom-pom garland at Hobby Lobby (here’s something similar) and it works with our colorful stockings. The Santa on my mantle is from my childhood and he might be missing a hand, but I like him too much to throw him out.

My buffet is where we have the nativity I got last year as a gift from my boss. I always thought the Willow Tree Nativity was so pretty! And I love my little chalkboard that luckily kept the writing on it from last year even though it was stored.

Finally, I have to show off our lights this year. My brother is an expert light man (as many off-duty firefighters are) and he hung our lights. However, Kyle and I did the windows and door ourselves. My brother told me to just use hot glue and it was way easier than I expected. I always wanted a gingerbread house and this year I finally got one! (ignore my awesome mom van in the picture)

That about wraps up the tour o’ trees and Christmas decor at my house! Share your Christmas decorations on my Facebook page! I love seeing everyone’s house all fixed up for the season.

Thanks for letting me share,

I love all of your trees and decorations – especially the ones we bought for you (and Joseph) when you were kids. I treasured them, and am happy that this can be passed down to my two sweet little granddaughters now to enjoy.

    Love you, Mom
