My 5 Favorite Christmas Movies

Happy Thursday! Last week, I asked my husband what his top five Christmas movies were and it got me thinking I should share my top five! I love Christmas movies and when we had cable I could binge watch them like crazy. You get on a good Hallmark roll and you are spent for the day! Nowadays, with two little ones, we’re lucky to sneak in a movie after they go to bed. So without further ado, I’m counting down my top five Christmas movies and ones I MUST watch during the Christmas season. (post contains affiliate links)

This was a lot harder than I expected, but I think I ranked them well and I’ll explain why.

  1. Four Christmases (PG-13)

If you haven’t seen Four Christmases, then you need to stop, find it and watch it right now. I don’t think everyone loves this movie, but my husband and I sure do (you have to think Vince Vaughn is hilarious). After you get through the inappropriate first scene, you get rolling into a hilarious tale of family Christmas drama. It ties us in a sappy way, but it pretty much keeps you laughing the whole time or crying depending on how relatable it is to your own family. I ranked this fifth because I thoroughly enjoy it, but it’s not quite as classic as the others on this list.

  1. Home Alone (PG)

Speaking of classic, Home Alone is a classic. We introduced Hope to this movie for the first time this year and she loved it. She thought Marv & Harry (the Wet Bandits) were so funny. I thought she might be a little scared, but I think their silly antics kept her laughing. You can’t beat Kevin’s one-liners and that movie score is Christmas perfection. My brother and I booby trapped our house after seeing this movie and almost made my dad bite it on the stairs up to our rooms. I would also rank Home Alone 2 in this list as well, but I’ve limited myself to five and so I’ll piggyback it with this one. 🙂

  1. White Christmas (NR)

I have loved this Christmas movie forever. I used to watch it every year as a kid with my mom (my brother and dad refused) and we’d sing and I would be enamored by the glamorous style of the 50’s. The music can’t be beat and the storyline is perfection. I also introduced Hope to it this year and she LOVED the dancing. Check out her video below:

I know this isn’t a favorite for everyone, but it doesn’t feel like Christmas if I don’t watch White Christmas (also I feel like it understands my passion for having snow on Christmas).

  1. Elf (PG)

I feel like the next two movies I don’t even need to explain my love for them. How do you not love Will Ferrell in an elf costume!? The story is so reminiscent of classic Christmas claymation, but with a modern day spin. Buddy the Elf is sheltered, innocent and just a big kid. We’ve already watched it twice this year and there might be an encore this week. Plus, I could listen to Zooey Deschanel sing all day!

  1. Christmas Vacation (PG-13)

The #1 movie on my Christmas list, that I can pretty much quote in its entirety is Christmas Vacation. It is a MUST watch during Christmas. I laugh the entire way through every time. I don’t know if it’s that I look at Clark Griswold and see my dad or the fact that we all understand the pressures of Christmas; but this movie is crazy, relatable and hilarious. Remember, it does have some intense language and inappropriate scenes (before you show it to your kids). We quote the movie throughout the season and sometimes beyond!
