Encouraging Words
Happy Halloween! I was planning to write a Halloween themed devotional (whatever that is, ha), but changed my mind when I was reminded over the weekend the blessing of words of encouragement. On Saturday, satan had just slammed me with frustration and discouragement all day and then God sent two sweet friends to my rescue. They sent me unprompted text messages filled with encouragement and words of affirmation for my work with this website. Exactly what I needed to hear!
This made me think about how important encouragement is for one another, especially women. It is so easy to lift a person up, to say a kind word that makes their day. Yet, so often we shy away from the task. Hebrews 10:23-25 says, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Our affirmation and identity are in Christ, but when life bogs us down or things stress us out, that encouragement from others can be vital. We need to stop being intimidated from saying a word that uplifts others…just say it! Even telling someone something simple, such as their hair looks good, can change their day. And what does it cost you? Nothing! In a world where negativity comes from every direction and people think they can say things without consequences, loving others and lifting them up is such a huge need.
If you know you would love hearing it, then someone else would too. Encourage someone today in the name of Christ and spur them on “toward love and good deeds”!
Thanks for letting me share,
